The Fourth Place

“The Fourth Place” is an independent film project by Swiss film makers Karin and Didi Fromherz. Their previous works, “Zuppa Tartaruga”, “Eurotravelling”, “Casting für den Film”, and “Die Krone der Schöpfung” were shown on various TV channels in Europe and at festivals around the globe. Same as for these previous works, “The Fourth Place” is intended to be financed through TV institutions and public and private film promotion. TV broadcasts and screenings at international festivals and possibly the cinema are being considered for the distribution.

Synopsis:

The Fourth Place will be a combination of documentary and animated film. It is about the globally active sub-culture of 3D animators who make Science Fiction and Fantasy productions away from Hollywood's beaten tracks. The documentary side of the film will contain interviews with these people, they will speak about their visions and motivations. We will learn of their social and cultural backgrounds and get to know their idols and their view of the world.
We as film makers will support five members of this 3D sub-culture in dreaming the dream of making their “big movie”: We will introduce the portrayed animators to each other and will try to connect their visions to form a single but jointly created story. In a kind of co-authorship, a 10-minute computer animation will form part and be the highlight of our documentary. This animation will incorporate and represent the world in which our characters live and think. Accordingly, it is a central part of this cultural-philosophical and intercultural contemplation.

Current state of project:

At present, “The Fourth Place” is in its project development phase, and its financing is secured. We are being supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (BAK), the Cantons of Aargovia and Lucerne, the City of Lucerne, and a number of foundations. A Swiss production company has already agreed to produce the film.

We are currently looking intensively for eligible animators/protagonists.
